New Auto Insurance Law Signed Into Law By Governor Rick Scott May 8, 2012
Governor Rick Scott signed into law a new auto insurance that will drastically reduce how much of your medical bills will be paid by under your PIP coverage. You will pay for $10,000 worth of coverage but your insurance will likely only pay $2,500 of your bills. You must get treatment within 14 days of the accident or nothing will be paid. A herniated disc injury, like Dwight Howard’s which required surgery, may leave you with thousands of dollars of medical bills as your responsibility. The worst part is that your insurance payments will not go down but you will have less insurance. Maybe in 2014, premiums will be reduced but only maybe. This law goes into effect on July 1, 2012. You need to make sure you have health insurance coverage or you will likely have some large medical bills hanging over your head if you get hurt in an auto accident after July 1.
