Orange County Deputy Issued Citation for Failing to Stop and Causing Accident.

By: Admin

An Orange County deputy who FHP say crashed into a minivan last week, injuring himself and four others, has been ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver of the van was also issued a citation.

Deputy Wheeler was headed southbound on Tanner Road in Orlando, Florida when he ran the stop sign at Colonial Drive and drove into the path of westbound traffic.

The left front side of Wheeler’s patrol car hit the right front of the Chevrolet Astro minivan.

The deputy was on patrol at the time of the crash but was not responding to a call or using his emergency lights or siren.

FHP also issued citations to the driver of the Astro minivan. He was ticketed for driving with a suspended license, failure to carry insurance and driving without headlights.

Wheeler was seriously injured in the crash, and fire rescue crews had to use a hydraulic cutting tool to remove him from his patrol car. He was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center and released.

The driver of the minivan and passengers were also transported to ORMC with minor injuries.
